Nederlands: ALTENA - De eikenprocessierups zorgt momenteel op veel plaatsen voor overlast. De brandhaartjes die de rups loslaat, veroorzaken oogklachten, benauwdheid en jeuk.
Bomen waar de rups in aangetroffen worden door de gemeente voorzien van waarschuwingstape. Een gespecialiseerd bedrijf is bezig met de verwijdering door de nesten op te zuigen. De prioriteit ligt momenteel bij plaatsen als speeltuinen en rondom scholen. Als u de rups ziet kunt u contact opnemen met de gemeente. Wanneer u de rups in uw tuin aantreft dient u zelf zorg te dragen voor het inschakelen van een specialist. De rups komt momenteel ook veelvuldig voor in natuurgebieden zoals bijvoorbeeld het Pompveld. Hier doet over het algemeen de natuur goed zijn werk, de rupsen worden gegeten door vogels. Wanneer er een nest wordt aangetroffen bij een picknickplaats draagt Het Brabants Landschap zorg voor de verwijdering. De eikenprocessierups (Thaumethopea processionea) is de rups van een nachtvlinder. Deze rupsen gaan ‘s nachts groepsgewijs - in processie - op zoek naar voedsel (eikenbladeren); vandaar de naam eikenprocessierups.
